Fairy tales are constantly filled with magic but rarely is there enchantment. “The Singing, Soaring Lark” , also known as "The Lady and the Lion", uses the power of the later. The story has a very Disney like feel, something that true fairy tales don’t actually have. The Lady in this narration plays the hero chasing after her love. She saves her husband and lion king from the spell of the Enchantress. She does make a mistake in the rescue, women can’t do everything right. The narration has a slight “Beauty and the Beast” atmosphere. A beautiful girl falls in love with a wild animal. The lion in this tale becomes entrapped in his beast form only in the daylight. At night he turns into his handsome prince form. The bride and groom live peacefully for a couple of years before he is turned into a dove and must fly the world for seven years. As any woman would do she follows her husband in the hopes of saving him. |
The Lady leaves her children and kingdom behind because the lion and the Lady’s love is so strong. She travels the world asking the sun and the wind for help. In return each element gives her a gift or the answer to where her husband is. In the end she tricks the Enchantress with her gifts, saving her husband and both live happily ever after. |
